The Mark of the Beast

QUESTION: The Mark of the beast - what is it?

ANSWER:

This is a fairly common question of those with a vague interest in end times prophecy (eschatology), particularly the book of Revelation. The Mark of the beast is referred to several times and is directly stated as being the number of man or 666. Revelation 13:16-18 says, "He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."

Many people have interpretations of the mark of the beast, particularly those in the media world. The actual meaning is yet to be revealed to us and there is a great deal of speculation in light of recent scientific developments. Implantable silicon chips, namely the "verichip" or "digital angel" which can contain a person's information and can be implanted in a person's hand or forehead. This directly fits with biblical prediction.

Nevertheless this is all speculation. Whatever the mark turns out to be, it is an actual physical sign of an already existing internal truth. Those who will accept the mark of the beast have already done so in their hearts. The prospects though for the people who do accept this mark are very bleak, as they face an eternity without God.

There is still hope! Seek the Lord while He may be found. Ask the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart and life and repent of the sinful things in your life.

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.
